And if we are no more than animals We must scratch every scrap of happiness To live and suffer and pass Mattering no more than all of the animals Is it this or is it that? All the universe or nothing? Which shall it be, pass-worthy, which shall it be? Which shall it be, pass-worthy, which shall it be? I'm not slurring my words, I'm just speaking in cursive Prepared for the worst, it's just a precursor To when time and space disappear To when time and space disappear And it seems we are no more than cannibals Feasting on the scraps of the men who came before us I spent 88,000 years in the lighthouse Waiting for you to come to the shore Waiting for you to come to the shore I'm not slurring my words, I'm just speaking in cursive Prepared for the worst, it's just a precursor To when time and space disappear To when time and space disappear I've seen your beauty in all eleven dimensions Stare deep into your eyes, see my own reflection What does it matter? We've created perfection Is it this or is it that? All the universe or nothing? Which shall it be, pass-worthy, which shall it be? Which shall it be, pass-worthy, which shall it be? I'm not slurring my words, I'm just speaking in cursive Prepared for the worst, it's just a precursor To when time and space disappear To when time and space disappear To when time and space disappear To when time and space disappear

This place is an anomaly it used to feel so big to me But now it's small and miserable, at least you think it's comfortable It's full of life it's full of death it's filled with hatred and regrets The grass is brown the water's green and blood's been spilled on everything. It may seem like I'm retired but you are all that I've desired Haunted by the memory of everything that's happened here Walls being broken boundaries crossed, cruel artifacts of families lost Have been put back together and re-arranged, made whole again But it's not the same. It's not the same. My work has been exception but I still sleep on the sectional My worth is overestimated, maybe it's the same mistakes I've made before and maybe more but who the hell is keeping score This is just another way to pour my heart out and complain That it's not the same It's not the same. My existence is a miracle, my eyes are filled with marigolds And living's just a metaphor for something else that's through the door A part time project, yes it seems there's something else outside of being attacked by knives and killed by lies It's time somebody recognize that it's not the same It's not the same. It's always been a mystery the truth in your identity, where you come from, who you're with, where you've been, or what you've done. It's in my psychology, it ages like geology, I'm running at a turtle's pace, I'm never gonna win the race cause it's not the same. It's not the same.

California is a prison, a dirty fucking prison. We all wanna get out but we haven't done our time. My heart is fucking worthless, my lungs are never working and everything is pointless in my mind. So what's it gonna be? Why you giving up so easily? We've got another show to play tonight. Right? Let's take a week out on the road, and maybe we could go some other place that won't leave us seeing white skies. The coast's a fucking prison, and the city's a fucking prison. The valley's a fucking prison, and the desert's a fucking prison. And the hills are fucking prisons, and the bay's a fucking prison. Sacramento's a fucking prison and LA's a fucking prison. It's all a fucking prison, a dirty fucking prison. We all wanna get out but we haven't done our time. We don't have friendly neighbors, they regulate our behavior trying to tell us what we love's a fucking crime. When the chips fell in your favor, you should've changed your major, then you wouldn't be stuck here seeing white skies. And I screamed "Art is fucking worthless, it's so damned fucking worthless." to every single tourist passing by. This street's a fucking prison, this beach it's a fucking prison. This town's a fucking prison, and my mind's a fucking prison. It's all a fucking prison, a dirty fucking prison. We all wanna get out but we haven't done our time. California is a prison, a dirty fucking prison and it's got me stuck here seeing white skies.

You weave a tapestry of confused identity, writing proverbs and hymns for feathered friends Just tune your view deep into me for a while, take it by force, keep drinking my bile as you sing along in your sleep Just wait til you finally surrender to me, what you could know you'll never see til you find your piece of infinity Keep following leaderless tribes on the street, but you ain't no damned man of God it seems I'm foreshadowed by writhing, hiding, waiting to decide. Clarity lost out on Road 28, fishing for peanuts in a rose-colored lake, you've devised a commitment to shame Hypertension and doubt it is burying me, rustle the leaves of a burnt almond tree and forever erase history And when it sprouts from the seed, won't you finally agree? That you've found your piece of infinity Hypertension and doubt it is burying me, rustle the leaves of a burnt almond tree and forever erase history American guidance away from the dead, industrial noise combusts in my head, I've waited so long to be fed And when it sprouts from the seed, won't you finally agree? That you've found your piece of infinity

El Paso 05:03
Out in the West Texas town of El Paso I fell in love with a Mexican girl. Night-time would find me in Rosa's cantina; Music would play and Felina would whirl. Blacker than night were the eyes of Felina, Wicked and evil while casting a spell. My love was deep for this Mexican maiden; I was in love but in vain, I could tell. One night a wild young cowboy came in, Wild as the West Texas wind. Dashing and daring, A drink he was sharing With wicked Felina, The girl that I loved. So in anger I Challenged his right for the love of this maiden. Down went his hand for the gun that he wore. My challenge was answered in less than a heart-beat; The handsome young stranger lay dead on the floor. Just for a moment I stood there in silence, Shocked by the FOUL EVIL deed I had done. Many thoughts raced through my mind as I stood there; I had but one chance and that was to run. Out through the back door of Rosa's I ran, Out where the horses were tied. I caught a good one. It looked like it could run. Up on its back And away I did ride, Just as fast as I Could from the West Texas town of El Paso Out to the bad-lands of New Mexico. Back in El Paso my life would be worthless. Everything's gone in life; nothing is left. It's been so long since I've seen the young maiden My love is stronger than my fear of death. I saddled up and away I did go, Riding alone in the dark. Maybe tomorrow A bullet may find me. Tonight nothing's worse than this Pain in my heart. And at last here I Am on the hill overlooking El Paso; I can see Rosa's cantina below. My love is strong and it pushes me onward. Down off the hill to Felina I go. Off to my right I see five mounted cowboys; Off to my left ride a dozen or more. Shouting and shooting I can't let them catch me. I have to make it to Rosa's back door. Something is dreadfully wrong for I feel A deep burning pain in my side. Though I am trying To stay in the saddle, I'm getting weary, Unable to ride. But my love for Felina is strong and I rise where I've fallen, Though I am weary I can't stop to rest. I see the white puff of smoke from the rifle. I feel the bullet go deep in my chest. From out of nowhere Felina has found me, Kissing my cheek as she kneels by my side. Cradled by two loving arms that I'll die for, One little kiss and Felina, good-bye.
